Closet Organizers and Accessories: The Final Touch for Perfect Order

In my work, closet organizers and accessories are all kinds of ingenious devices you can consider adding once you have determined the basic elements of your closet or walk in, such as closet shelving and closet drawers. These organizers fit in with the shelves, drawers, and rods, and are specifically conceived for you to put away things that need something special to have their own place.

I am talking about tie racks, belt racks, valet rods, jewelry liners, mirrors and much more.

Pull Outs, Pull Downs and Tilt Outs

  • Pants pull outs allow you to put you pants away in one section and pull them out together rather than have them on individual hangers. It is one way of sorting out pants by color, style or season.
  • Pull out shelves are rarely used in walk in closets. In some cases where there is a lot of depth and little width to play with, I design pull out shelves (like drawers, but with a shelf, not a box) to accommodate shoes, two pairs back to back. These shelves can be as close as 6" apart and allow for lots of shoe space. An island may be a good place for pull out shelves.
  • Tilt-out HamperPull out hampers and tilt out hampers are either baskets or canvas bags with handles that you can keep your laundry in. They may be stacked 2 high. Most often they are below other drawers.
  • Pull Out BasketsPull out baskets are sometimes good for socks, athletic shoes, anything you want to be able to just throw in there. I do not recommend coated wire baskets for T-shirts or sweaters. A flat, smooth surface is more convenient.
  • A pull down rod is a rod you can pull down towards you. It is used as a third rod in very tall closets, or as the upper rod in a double hang for a person in a wheelchair.

Miscellaneous Other Closet Organizers

  • Closet Organizer Belt and Tie RackBelt and tie racks are attached on the inside of the panel and take up very little room. You pull them out when you need them and they are hidden away the rest of the time. If you have a lot of belts and ties, you can consider a belt and tie drawer
  • Closet Organizer Valet RodA valet rod pulls out when you need it and is otherwise tucked away too. It allows you to prepare your outfit for the next day. I had one client, single, who had five valet rods with one for each day of the week, and he prepared his closet on the weekend with all five suits visible and ready to go.
  • Closet HookHooks may be added to the wall or to an outside panel.

Other Helpful Items for Your Closet

  • A pull out mirror slides into the depth of a panel, out of view when you do not need it. Its advantage over a wall mirror is that it takes hardly any wall space and it is very easy for you to access when you need it. Pull Out Mirror
  • A pull out ironing board, just like the mirror, is almost invisible and takes very little space. Smaller, touch up ironing boards can be hidden in drawers. Pull Out Ironing Board
  • Safe Built into ClosetSafes can be installed in the wall behind a hanging section, for example.

These are most of the closet organizers that your closet designer will be able to include in your closet. The right closet organizers will keep your closet impeccably organized, pleasing to the eye and fun to use.
